How to measure ring size?

We understand that finding that perfect ring is a difficult task. Not only do you need to decide the design but also need to look into the quality and cost of the ring. Another important factor that you can’t overlook is the ring size. Correct ring size is a very important aspect when it comes to buying a ring. Your ring should neither be loose nor tight. So, in case you are not sure about the ring size you want, no worries, this guide covers all you need to know about measuring your ring size. You can do this from the comfort of your home.

How can I measure my ring size at home?

Ring sizing is not as difficult as it seems. There are a couple of methods to measure ring size sitting at home. These include using a string and ruler, a ring size chart, or a plastic ring sizer.

Let’s look at them in detail so that ring sizing is no more a trouble for you.

Measure your ring size with a string & ruler

This method is the easiest to do as it requires just three household items. So, grab a ruler, a pencil, and a piece of string to measure your ring size in just under a minute.

Step 1 - Wrap a string around your finger. If you don’t have a string, you can even use a piece of paper.

Step 2 - With the help of a pen or pencil, mark the point where the ends of the paper or the string meet. Take someone’s help if you’re unable to mark it yourself.

Step 3 - Now take the ruler to measure the length of the paper or string to the marked point.

Step 4 - Check the ring size chart to find the size that corresponds to what you just measured and voila, you are good to go!

Here is a size chart for your reference.

Measure your ring size using a size chart

This method is perfect for you if you already have an everyday ring that fits you beautifully. Using that ring and a ring chart, you can easily find your ring size.

Step 1 – For this, you would need to take a printout of the ring size chart at 100%. Ensure that the line in the image measures exactly 135mm.

Step 2 – Now, keep your ring in a manner that the black circle exactly touches the inside of your ring. This will give you your exact ring sizing.

The ring size chart provided above has U.S. sizes and ring size measurements are in millimeters.

Measure your ring size using a plastic ring sizer tool

For using this method, you would need a ring sizer tool. This tool is not expensive and gives pretty accurate results.

Step 1 - Slowly adjust the buckle of the ring sizer till you feel that you can put your finger through it.

Step 2 - Once you have adjusted your finger in it, you need to make it a little tighter until it’s comfortable.

Step 3 - Try sliding it over your knuckles to make sure it can glide with little resistance.

Step 4 - Now, check your ring size inside of the buckle of the ring sizer.

In all the methods discussed above, we suggest that you measure your ring size at least three to four times to get it right. Taking only one measurement may result in some inaccuracy as it is possible to have errors while measuring.

When is it best to measure your ring size?

It might not be noticeable but our fingers do get a little swollen or shrunk throughout the day as we do various daily activities. We recommend that you measure your ring size during the late afternoon or evening. Also, make sure that your body temperature is normal and your fingers are neither too warm nor too cold. This is because warm temperature can make your fingers swell while they tend to shrink due to cold temperature in the winter.

How should my ring fit?

A perfect ring is the one that slides over your knuckles with little friction. It should neither be too tight and uncomfortable on the finger, nor it should be too loose that it is always on verge of falling off. Rings fit differently on every individual due to their unique finger shape and size. Thus, we recommend you to first carefully find your ring size and then, choose a ring that is easy to take off while still not falling off on its own.

How to know if my ring is tight or loose?

A tight ring will leave a significant indent on the finger. It may even cause pain or irritation when worn. This ring is definitely not for you. In contrast to this, a loose ring will keep shifting on your finger and would need constant adjusting. We don’t recommend such a ring as it is likely to fall off your finger while working.

How to find your partner’s ring size?

A surprise engagement ring is special and we understand that buying that perfect ring for your loved one is your priority. Hence, we help you to determine your partner’s ring size. Either take one of their rings with you or if that is not possible, using one of their everyday rings, make a circle on a piece. Then just try to match the size of the ring by placing it on the ring chart provided above. However, this might not be the most accurate thing to do. So, it is better to go for one size up rather than taking a ring that won’t even fit. Also, sizing down a ring is easier than sizing it up.

We are sure that after going through this guide you would be able to find your perfect ring size.
