Oval Cut Diamonds
Oval cut diamonds are as interestingly stunning and beautiful as the round cut brilliant. Similar to a round, an oval diamond has 58 cuts, which was introduced by Tolkowsky’s talented nephew, Lazare Kaplan. Known for his skill with cleaving and working with “flawed” diamonds, Kaplan was able to put his expertise to improve the ideal cut to produce oval diamonds. He introduced the equation to the public in 1957. Ever since, diamond cutters even to this day, follow the standards put forth by Kaplan for an oval diamond ring.
Having the same facets as the round, an oval diamond manifests the same allure and clarity similar to its counterpart. Another advantage of this cut is that no matter what carat the stone may be, an engagement ring with an oval cut will always look bigger and larger compared to other diamond styles.
