What is 14k white gold?
SHIREE'S ANSWER:
White gold is essentially a mix of pure gold, which is yellow, and whiter metals. Typically these white metals will include zinc, silver, palladium and/or nickel. When casting 14K white gold, these white metals will compose 41.5% of the alloy and the pure gold will be 58.5%.
The end result, however, isn't of course a pure white metal, rather a slightly yellow off-white color. That's why the majority of white gold jewelry will also be rhodium plated to give it the shiny pure white finish we're familiar with - similar in appearance to 950 platinum, which is a solid white metal.
14K white gold is a strong, durable and relatively easy to craft metal, perfect for everyday fine jewelry that will last a lifetime.
