How to clean diamond earrings?
SHIREE'S ANSWER:
Essentially there are two main approaches to having your earrings cleaned - at home or by a professional.
If you'd like to clean diamond earrings at home, simply use warm water, dish soap and a soft toothbrush at a table with a tray. Do not clean them over a sink or any other place where you may lose your earrings should they accidentally fall. The soap and soft toothbrush will gently remove the natural build up of dust, oils and dirt. Once clean, dry with a microfiber cloth so that you don't leave more dust on them when drying.
Should you prefer to have your diamond earrings cleaned by a professional jeweler, make sure that they are aware of the diamond type (if it's a clarity enhanced diamond, do not expose it to extreme heat or corrosive acids) and ask to ensure that your diamonds are secure in the settings. The most common and effective way to clean earrings will be to use an ultrasonic machine which will also have warm soapy water, but instead of the toothbrush, it vibrates to remove dirt. In case your earrings are white gold, you may also want to have them re-dipped in rhodium to bring back their brand new looking shine.
Either way, diamond earrings can be worn daily and should last a lifetime with proper care.
